Good Websites Out Bad Neighbors

Purchasing a new home is one of life’s biggest events. There are tons of variables to Bad Neighborsconsider such as the commute to work, local businesses, crime, neighborhood schools, and overall ambiance. Then throw in mortgage rates and terms, taxes, and insurance - and the task becomes even more daunting. But in the end, after investing hundreds of hours preparing, laying your head down that first night in your new home makes it all worth it.

However, you may have neglected to research what I feel is the Number 1 factor to consider when relocating: Your new neighbors. You can change the landscape, the paint or the carpet. But you are absolutely, positively, stuck with your neighbors.

Of course, when your Realtor showed you the house, no one was urinating into your Air Conditioner.

In order to avoid this painful lesson, the folks over at RottenNeighbor.com have set up a social interaction site where homeowners describe the atrocities of your terrible neighbors. Built on the Google Maps platform, users can locate their neighbors and submit a synopsis of their misdeeds: such as this classic from ZIP Code 90210:

Worst neighbor anyone could ask for. every night they have cars coming and going throughout the night. babies are left outside crying until 1 AM, so it takes me an hour or more to get to sleep. their dogs keep getting loose. cops have already shot dead 2 of their pitbulls, and they gave a 3rd away after she bit someone. TONS of people live in this house. they have 2 driveways and still manage to put 4-6 more cars on the street every single night. once their mail was accidentally delivered to us and almost every single letter was addressed to a different family name. we used to think it was a whorehouse, then we thought they’re drug dealers, but now we’re really not sure what the hell is up with these people.

Take it from the thousands of posters, spending some extra time researching your neighbors could keep you from experiencing the same regret. Works great for apartments, too!
